he petitioners, Aniruddha Bahal and Sushasini Raj, filed petitions in the High Court of Delhi seeking to quash the charge-sheet against them and the order taking cognizance and issuing summons against them as accused. The petitioners had conducted a sting operation to expose the practice of some Members of Parliament taking money for asking questions. The court noted that this practice was widely known but lacked credible proof until the petitioners’ operation.  

The court considered the question of whether a citizen has the right to conduct a sting operation to expose corruption. It discussed the fundamental duties of citizens under Article 51A of the Constitution, including the duty to cherish noble ideals, protect India’s sovereignty, and strive for excellence. The court emphasized that exposing corruption is a crucial civic duty.  

The court quashed the charge-sheet and related orders against the petitioners, stating that their actions were in the public interest and within their duties as citizens.
